灰度也就是所谓的色阶或灰阶,是指亮度的明暗程度。对于数字化的显示技术而言,灰度是显示色彩数的决定因素。一般而言灰度越高,显示的色彩越丰富,画面也越细腻,更易表现丰富的细节。
灰度等级主要取决于系统的A/D转换位数。当然系统的视频处理芯片、存储器以及传输系统都要提供相应位数的支持才行。目前国内LED显示屏主要采用8位处理系统,也即256(28)级灰度。简单理解就是从黑到白共有256种亮度变化。采用RGB三原色即可构成256×256×256=16777216种颜色。即通常所说的16兆色。国际品牌显示屏主要采用10位处理系统,即1024级灰度,RGB三原色可构成10.7亿色。
灰度虽然是决定色彩数的决定因素,但并不是说无限制越大越好。因为首先人眼的分辨率是有限的,再者系统处理位数的提高会牵涉到系统视频处理、存储、传输、扫描等各个环节的变化,成本剧增,性价比反而下降。一般来说民用或商用级产品可以采用8位系统,广播级产品可以采用10位系统。
